Haringey Nursery Schools Trainings and Consortium

The Haringey Nursery Schools Training Consortium was formed in 2011 to represent the progressive and outward-looking role of nursery schools in the 21st century. We are a partnership of three maintained nursery schools in Haringey — Rowland Hill, Woodlands Park and Pembury House Nursery School and Children’s Centres — with a long-standing reputation for outstanding integrated early years practice.

Our central aim is to lead and support improvement in Early Years education across Haringey and beyond. Working closely with the Local Authority and key partners including the Haringey Early Years Team, Pen Green, Derby University, Middlesex University and Barnet & Southgate College, we provide a wide range of high-quality accredited and non-accredited training opportunities for the Early Years workforce.

The Consortium supports practitioners across Nursery Schools, Primary Schools, Private, Voluntary and Independent settings, as well as Childminders. Together with the Haringey Early Years Quality and Improvement Team, we also deliver an annual Early Years Conference and a broad programme of professional development.

Our nursery schools are located within diverse communities in Haringey and serve families from a rich range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Each school has an on-site Children’s Centre, offering fully integrated care, education and family support services, including volunteer opportunities, training and pathways back into employment for parents and carers.

We are actively involved in a range of local, national and international projects, including Erasmus CPD visits to Reggio Emilia and Nordic Nature Kindergartens, the Pen Green DfE SEND Project, Language Lift Off, Healthy Early Years London, Talk for Writing in the Early Years and the Story Hunters Project. We also work in partnership with Barnet College to support accredited childcare and GCSE courses.

In 2011, the Consortium was recognised by the Department for Education as one of only 16 Early Years Teaching Centres nationally, reflecting our continued commitment to excellence in Early Years education and workforce development.

Research consistently shows that high-quality staff training and development leads to improved outcomes for children, supporting their social, emotional and cognitive development and laying strong foundations for lifelong learning.
